Shantou City has a total area of 2,198.7 sq. km., it had a permanent resident population of 5.6082 million at the end of 2017, including 5.6544 million with registered residence. The total sea area of the city is 10,500 sq. km, including 2,570 sq. km. of different marine function zones. Shantou City has jurisdiction over Nan'ao County and six districts, namely, Jinping, Longhu, Chenghai, Haojiang, Chaoyang and Chaonan.
